YourStorySEO.com owner Kathleen Colan (aka Kathleen Murphy Colan) excels at telling stories. Ever since the day in first grade when Ms. Buener dubbed her, “Chatty Kathy,” she has used communication to motivate others to action.
On the flip-side, she’s an Olympic listener who draws from six senses to quickly assess and diagnose client needs.
Long considered an opinion leader by her peers, Kathleen’s marketing/public relations/journalism career spans more than 20 years and includes experience as national media relations director for Fortune 500 firm Progressive Insurance.
Not quite suited for the corporate world, she struck out on her own in 2001 to work as a freelance journalist and marketing consultant. Fate intervened and Kathleen was soon a sought-after freelance contributor for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and Cleveland Magazine as well as numerous national clients including the Knowledgeworks Foundation, Becker & Mayer booksellers and the New York Post. Since 2004 she has served as the Society Page correspondent for the Cleveland Plain Dealer and still enjoys covering two events each week.
When the economy tanked in 2008, Kathleen was serving as custom publishing editor for the Cleveland Plain Dealer’s custom publishing division which ceased operations in 2009. As newspapers and media properties began more aggressive cutbacks, and business across the country seemed to grind to a halt, Kathleen decided to set out on a new venture to transfer her skills to the online world.
In 2009 she hesitantly picked up a new client, the technology firm, Mongoose Metrics, as director of marketing and content. There she quickly became engulfed in the universe of online marketing and social media. After a short, two years helping Mongoose establish their online presence with comprehensive inbound marketing strategies, she decided to use her new-found skills to help more clients understand and super-charge their online marketing efforts and social media presence.
In 2011 YourStorySEO.com was launched to help companies optimize online content and amplify it with social media. Kathleen is currently focused on working with a variety of clients including a Fortune 500 marketing firm, a nationally-known personal injury law firm and a chain of furniture stores.
Kathleen’s passion lies with transferring her knowledge of website and social media optimization to anyone who will listen — and pay! Her most exciting project to date is a series of social media training classes hosted each Thursday at the Shaker Launch House in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
